Thank You, to the Men

To: My Dad, my Brothers, my Uncles, my Cousins, my Teachers and my Friends.

I have been blessed to have great men in my life. People can be so quick to generalise and say that all men are bad and that there are no good men anymore. When we do say such I think that it comes from a place of pain and deep hurt.

We live in a world that criticises more than it encourages, I think that sometimes we overlook all the good in life because we are consumed by the negative realities in this life. There is indeed so much pain that has been brought at the hands of men but, it would be arrogance to claim that women have clean hands. There is definitely a lot to complain about in this world, pick up a newspaper and see but, good exists and to forever be focused on the bad, I would think that would make the heart sick.

History is full of Great people Men and Women. It sometimes feels like it is the grave site that holds all the great people but, I believe we have great people in our mists. The men who still open doors; the sweet lady who ask ‘how are you doing?’ and waits for an answer; the young boy who picks up someone else’s litter and throws it away; the teens who help a lady carry groceries to her car; the men who help an elderly couple change a tire at the side of a road….

Greatness surrounds us every single moment but, today I want to honour the Great Men in our world.

I want to be part of a generation that speaks out when wrong is done but, I also want to be part of the generation that celebrates the good in this life. So, Thank You to the Men.

Hectic Days

My favourite quote is our Deepest fear by Marianne Williamson; it begins by stating that our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. Today, I didn't feel like that, today my weaknesses are the reason that I am inadequate and that is a reality in my head.

I am more than what I think about myself on a bad day, I am more than my fears, I am worthy, I am loved. Bad days do come but they go too. What makes us great is not what we do at our weakest but, how we rise thereafter.

I have surrounded myself with great people who do great things for other people…. I am blessed and joy cometh in the morning.

Our deepest fear

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Who are you?

Who are you?

But, wait, before you answer that

put off the titles and accomplishments.

Who are you?

Without the material possessions

and the places you have been.

Who are you?

Without people’s opinions of you

and the roles you have in life.

Who are you?

Who are you?

Who are you?

Who you are goes far beyond the human eye.

Who you are cannot be touched by the human hand.

You are a Vessel

You can only be filled by a limitless source.

Your content is what gives you worth;

not the beauty that you do carry on the outside.

Yes, you have been broken before;

we all have;

but, slowly through different processes

your Creator put you back together again.

You still carry the cracks

but, you never lost your beauty.

You are a Vessel

You may look like an ordinary object

overflowing with some kind of content;

…to the contrary

Closer examination reveals,

that you are one of the most Extraordinary

Creations ever Created

You are a Vessel

The only way

You could ever know ‘why you were created?’

Is to ask you Creator

YOU ARE A VESSEL

It is a New Year, again

I made a decision, a long time ago never to live an average life, and you know sometimes I feel like I am, but I now that I am not. I know the choices that I have made have not been average since I made that decision. Although I have made “average decisions”, I have tried my best to be intentional about it.

So with this New Year, I have not thought about making New Year’s resolutions I haven’t made plans different from the one I have already made. During the end of a year and the beginning you hear people make a list of resolutions; I haven’t really read any reports of how those resolutions went. Then there are my favourite people who say 'NO I am not making any resolutions this year'. I don’t know why they don’t make any resolutions, but I do have an idea of why I don’t sometimes set any goals for myself or make decisions of my own. It’s because I am afraid; I am reminded of the past, when I did set goals and didn't accomplish them, I then think “what will be different this time”.

But (yes I just started a sentence with but), I am inclined to think about people around the world who have achieved greatness, those with humble beginnings and interesting situations; who have risen above their circumstances and achieved much more. They didn't do it without failure and disappointment; great minds got kicked out of/quit prestigious schools, peacemakers have been involved in violence, political figures involved in scandals, but are still seen for their greatness and you ask ‘how?’.

This reminds me of my favourite quote by Marianne Williamson called our deepest fear, there is a line that reads “We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.” That last line it gets me, we all have the potential to be great, the question is do we have the heart?

It’s not whether if we can, but whether if we want to?

I sit here thinking to myself do I want to? I DO. I KNOW THAT I DO, but sometimes I fail at things and see others progressing and ask myself why aren't I? I’m not there because I can’t; it’s just that this part of my journey is different.

Sometimes your journey of greatness is having to do what is right even thou people think it is extremely wrong; sometimes it is having to pray when you are not even believing in God at that moment. Our journey of greatness is a difficult one and they cannot all be the same cause it’s not greatness if it is.
